What is the cat yurt made of?

Our cat yurt is made from a durable eco-friendly craft felt. Sturdy but very soft to the touch.

 

What sizes are available?

The yurt is available in one standard size designed to comfortably fit most cats. The dimensions are 15 inches in diameter, 13 inches in height from top cone to the base of the yurt, while the door is 7 inches tall and 7 inches wide.

 

Is the yurt easy to assemble? 

The yurt comes 100% stitched and ready to go! All stitching is carefully inspected prior to shipment as well.

 

What if my yurt was creased from shipping and handling? 

We've tried to reduce the cost of shipping for everyone by folding the yurt inwards on itself. The creasing is usually minor, as the yurt isn't bending in the wrong structural places. It folds just like a hat. Any creasing or dents along the fold line can be removed by ironing/steaming the yurts on a low heat setting. 

And if you're anything like me, and maybe don't get around to ironing your cat's Kazakh yurt, the fold line also just gradually disappears over time too

 

What if my cat doesn't use it?

They tend to do whatever they want, I know! We all know how finicky cats can be. Even if you like the way our yurt looks, maybe your cat doesn't like anything about it. We have a 30 day guarantee because we don't want you stuck with a yurt that your cat doesn't use. But please be patient and give your cat time to make his/her final judgment. 

 

They're still not using it. Any tips?

From my personal experience, I recommend placing the yurt in different locations and alternating until your cat inexplicably finds it to his/her favor. (Yes, sometimes it really is that simple.) My cats especially like when the yurt is not on the floor but elevated a bit on a table. Of course the places cats sleep and chill must earn their absolute trust! Your new yurt will go through a thorough cat inspection. For some cats a safety inspection only takes a few sniffs, while for others it can take a few weeks. Cat behavior truly differs from cat to cat, and only those with cats know how deep the personality spectrum goes! So please give it a little time and experimentation!

Can the yurt be used outdoors?

While the yurt is intended for indoor use, it can be used outdoors. I think it's especially useful for leash training (not that I dare try) as it provides cats with an easy sense of home, a familiar place to retreat whenever the adventure gets a bit too much.

As for your favorite outdoor kitties, or indoor/outdoor kitties, craft felt is a surprisingly strong fabric too. It's not designed to withstand all the harshness of nature, but I think it's a snug shelter that any outdoor cat would appreciate as well.

 

Do you hand stitch these? Where are they made?

I designed and sewed my first cat yurts. It's incredibly time consuming and my stitching is terrible! I was thankful to find a small, quality manufacturer in China who was willing to bring my design to life, and with much better quality. All the yurts are manufactured by hand in China. I inspect all yurts prior to shipment. Your yurt will be shipped from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The yurt is machine washable. Wash on Delicate setting with cold water. Air dry, preferably.
